Christl Grow’s last paintings

In her final weeks, Christl Grow completed “Summer” for the Hyatt House hotel at Railroad Square in Tallahassee, Florida.

As she completed and signed “Summer,” she was too weak to deliver it or to see it on display, but her husband and son got it framed and delivered it and brought her photos of it in place.

This brought her a sense of completion as she was dying of an untreatable pancreatic cancer.

While she was finishing the darker, vivid “Summer” — shown here on the left — Christl separately completed the unnamed cloud picture on the right that is clearly its companion. It is in the family’s collection.

Each is a large 3-foot by 4-foot oil painting on canvas.
